⚖️ Dog Weight Calculator
Estimate your puppy's adult weight, or check whether your adult dog is within a healthy weight range for their size.
How Puppy Weight Estimates Work
The puppy adult weight estimate uses a simple growth curve formula: current weight divided by current age in weeks, multiplied by the expected maturity age for the breed size. Smaller breeds mature earlier (around 32–40 weeks); larger breeds continue growing until 18–24 months.
This formula is most accurate between 8 and 16 weeks of age. Very young puppies (under 8 weeks) and puppies already close to adult size will produce less reliable estimates. For mixed breeds, use the size category of the larger parent as your reference point.
Understanding the Healthy Weight Check
The healthy weight ranges in this tool are based on general size categories, not breed-specific standards. A dog's ideal weight depends on their frame and muscle composition — a lean, muscular dog and a small-framed dog of the same size category may have very different healthy weights.
The most reliable at-home check is the rib test: run your fingers along your dog's ribcage with light pressure. You should feel each rib easily without seeing them. If you have to press firmly to feel ribs, your dog may be overweight. If ribs are clearly visible without touching, they may be underweight.
Weight and Large Breed Health
For large and giant breeds, keeping weight in check during puppyhood is especially important. Overfeeding large-breed puppies accelerates bone growth and significantly increases the risk of hip dysplasia and other orthopedic conditions later in life. Large-breed puppy foods are specifically formulated with lower calcium and calorie density to support healthy, steady growth.
